This program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are u8 _( P9 g( |' w) E
assembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory8 N& {) t E5 \0 a
installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They, R% K: w$ I5 o4 n9 i& U4 p( Y. x
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined5 U. K1 O# j3 e# n8 H& P
electrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
/ ]% S# D/ c3 f4 T7 N: X! I' }strain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,
9 t6 C T$ G( x, j- ltraceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is
# c, A6 Z5 Q7 ?9 u! hnot possible at an end-product factory location. This program can+ V. o7 L6 _ c; y
be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally6 n% n! ^, C; E& s" N
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally
5 @1 ]: M, D6 [" ^' c0 @! x7 ~designed for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram
- E6 ^: X9 l; g- o- A) F* Xor carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for
, b7 S, Y; l$ o- H" H- Ufield installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power. X$ n$ j7 L# x% ^
supply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as
: o- M" K* v" @a motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
& W6 O( ~& R' W0 [, ~ [# mMethod of traceability C' {- u# @+ v' O7 r
An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with% s, _, q+ n, r
a harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product
' r( j9 e }, o O; p# K8 t7 ~manufacturer that details construction elements and components
: F. u L8 m9 f& ^' a- zto be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer/ n( u8 Z1 W* Z$ ?/ B6 A( x; z
will assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications
0 i# I/ x, P1 J3 v& zand, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these
, r) E! o- f0 l6 w( k; _% j3 uspecifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
7 A* D' J& n# H4 vthese construction elements is further determined at an end-product
