This program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are
+ `8 w6 s2 |2 u% d" ^assembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory
" j5 z) X; |0 o6 pinstalled components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They( N, }8 @9 c+ s3 M" K! C
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
2 s4 X$ d6 I- m5 Y e& D) V |electrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
% S8 Q1 `+ [% }% X3 Vstrain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,/ ]+ T2 |: t: b- g+ Z
traceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is6 N2 g: E8 E7 X/ S4 V8 ~
not possible at an end-product factory location. This program can
9 j! w- e6 z7 h7 i0 C0 d2 n% abe used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally& P0 a% b% H- Y9 T6 ?
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally
" n4 H: @4 V# j: wdesigned for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram
9 N. i$ d3 a! \' Lor carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for, }" \* ^$ h9 l6 N! H
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power+ r" c2 @+ r7 i3 @4 L% E$ Y
supply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as9 Q- s% {7 k" ]5 o" Y9 y& M% _
a motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
" i% K9 N+ m. K1 s! s4 G' X* uMethod of traceability" y) H. J: h; k* D
An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
" r O: y' j7 h. na harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product
3 N& B# ?2 s- c5 b7 @manufacturer that details construction elements and components( q9 k& x5 a) H N3 d% h
to be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer
, d" ~: `3 f" L- a u" Ywill assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications
; h" S1 U2 @ H1 {& @and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these6 k3 t, S7 O" v, E
specifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
$ s0 S2 ~' q5 v( W; x& y! _these construction elements is further determined at an end-product
- Y; w- X6 M% N6 c, [4 Qmanufacturing location and involves verifying that these features: T) W2 ]6 j0 R6 }7 S+ V0 q
