Overview
7 Z4 N% Q. {$ J" d3 V% m. ]" h7 L. tThis program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are
) m) g5 E q& ?/ p2 r) D8 L" }( ^/ q8 zassembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory& g' F2 R& \0 r& ~9 n4 @* \- c
installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They+ R" { v @% X# p8 d, P* w- m8 N) e
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
y2 v% T" `2 selectrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
' q1 t4 e$ @% ~strain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,
8 `! Y- {3 X, i, O( s' y, M, v. }' _traceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is
" B E0 f6 g Y Lnot possible at an end-product factory location. This program can; t) n5 a& @' d* H- s. h7 W
be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally$ `2 ^9 A8 u( F" m
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally
* Y! u. N7 x9 {+ qdesigned for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram4 J' M9 x7 Y1 v3 I4 E
or carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for* l& l. b2 N* q9 o' R! C
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power
+ E, R1 j6 J7 S6 \+ Y- Y9 rsupply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as
/ I2 u& _) p4 V6 r2 Ia motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
. N# v7 ]' K# w* O% s4 LMethod of traceability1 m( f, X3 Y0 m8 M, d7 h3 z, _0 r
An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
5 S M0 c: h+ Ca harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product e3 o4 w" Y# z8 j9 r9 ]
manufacturer that details construction elements and components! C- j& K+ g: ~6 d. D5 Y+ o8 l! h
to be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer% a w- S2 T" b* Q! J2 I
will assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications! a; k9 `" ?7 k" s# l" N
and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these
6 ?: \! J9 s0 b( m2 a/ Bspecifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
1 d0 W3 G* Q1 _5 g, [these construction elements is further determined at an end-product
, E. a+ ]$ {: r% ~, Hmanufacturing location and involves verifying that these features
( E$ s0 M. V lcomply with an end-product Follow-Up Services procedure.6 ]5 T) d$ v- H) [- E9 F) T
The UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit
+ G5 `8 |* t" t* \4 o3 I9 a1 a8 Jcontainer in which a product is packaged is the only method used
7 K m+ E. H9 hto identify wiring harnesses manufactured under the UL Recognition! [0 L$ c1 s6 R- {
and Follow-Up Service programs. |
