1.1 These requirements cover household cooking equipment that is floor or cabinet supported,

accordance with the National Electrical Code.

electrical connection to the cooking equipment with which they are intended to be used.* O8 V6 E+ m# b3 \. m7 i
1.3 These requirements do not cover commercial cooking appliances.

1.5 For the purpose of these requirements, cooking equipment includes ranges, ovens, surface
, f( q$ O' f2 E* X- Zassemblies, or combinations thereof. A range is considered to be a combination of a surface assembly6 b [( |- B: H* d: R$ r, Q
with one or more ovens. Wall-mounted cooking equipment is considered to be those appliances intended
8 c; H' u" j, i6 `) ]4 cfor mounting in or on a wall or other vertical surface of a building or cabinet. Counter-mounted cooking/ I0 e4 n7 C+ K$ L# K
equipment is considered to be those appliances intended for mounting in or on a counter or other. U3 N" `# G n! K [
horizontal surface of a building or cabinet.
7 J5 r! K+ B3 v8 `- d* t1.6 In the following text, a requirement that applies only to one, two, or three of the classes of equipment
$ b& L l) G+ N( j! Ocoming within its scope – ventilating hoods, ranges, wall-mounted ovens, counter-mounted cooking units,; {. i: ]. w1 m! C8 O& S
or combinations thereof – are so identified. In the absence of such specific reference, or if the term

1.7 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different
" q$ |, c8 ^: ~2 D% R" m: d I& \from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock
: j3 l5 I# X( @0 n, o7 k) e- \or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product
$ t4 ] D; M4 L7 r' I* ~5 orequirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A
( g2 p1 z j1 g& Uproduct whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific" M* v. W/ a! y6 [6 b
requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements4 C+ S: }4 u- I3 o6 x
shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and3 {+ h3 Y& {+ ]' D/ h
