8.6 If units or technical data are expressed by symbols, the following symbols shall be used:

8.1 Tools shall be marked with:
1 U: m4 X: h3 x6 K2 e– the year of manufacture.
– rated voltage(s) or rated voltage range(s), in volts. Tools for star-delta connection shall be
clearly marked with the two rated voltages (for example 230 Δ/ 400 Y);
( X* C/ T* ^! b7 x– symbol for nature of supply, unless the rated frequency is marked. The symbol for nature
of supply shall be placed next to the marking for rated voltage;

on the tool is the total maximum input or current that can be on circuit at the same time. If

input or rated current is that corresponding to the highest loading possible;
– name or trade mark or identification mark and address of the manufacturer or any other
agent responsible for placing the tool on the market;

– symbol for class II construction, for class II tools only;
% q9 U% ]& P; M. S$ s) ?9 r4 c' u1 _– IP number according to degree of protection against ingress of water other than IPX0. If
5 _* ?9 `8 N  w. ^the first numeral for the IP numbering is omitted, the omitted numeral shall be replaced by
the letter X, for example IPX5;
9 U8 F* F* O8 d$ {– “WARNING – To reduce the risk of injury, user must read instruction manual” or the sign

shall not be separated from the cautionary statement.

Additional markings are allowed, provided they do not give rise to misunderstanding.
