Capacitor casings of Certified X1, X2, X3, Y1, Y2 or Y3 capacitors to IEC 60384-14 may be
1 W# H9 y! C& v# m$ x: ]7 ~# haccepted as Operational or Basic insulation when the capacitors are used in circuits compatible; z4 ]- V2 ?4 U, ~
with their ratings. Therefore, these capacitors do not need to be provided with an additional,; e& S# }3 K& A* V0 g% t% C( z
definable insulation level when the capacitor casing is acting as Basic or Operational insulation.

Under IEC 60384-14, X1, X2, X3, Y2, and Y3 capacitors are subjected to a minimum Electric
6 e- ^& d: A! V. rStrength Test of 2000 V rms between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors are subjected to a 4000' j* ?" O% n; e) Z$ s- p
V test. (Y4 are only subjected to a 900 V test).
* N F: Q0 N, S J8 j% g: @For Recognized Component FOWX2 capacitors, UL 1414 now covers X1, Y1 and Y2 capacitors,+ p0 U) q/ o2 D, X6 Q) B/ ?
and the minimum Electric Strength Test is 2000 V between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors3 |* \8 \9 g# B! W3 @3 [8 g
are subjected to a 4000 V test.2 _. w( I' w3 W2 ~
For Recognized Component FOKY2 capacitors, UL 1283 requires the insulation between live
X; @( V5 J+ T9 \& _parts and casing is required to pass a 2Vr+1500V (Vrating =< 250V) electric strength test.
9 Y9 D) m3 h( CAdditionally, the case is required to be V-2 or less flammable (or equivalent), and meet UL 746C* i) V/ Q: M0 Q! m, G+ o0 d
(or generic) insulation requirements.& q/ L; {" T# w2 N+ f
