Capacitor casings of Certified X1, X2, X3, Y1, Y2 or Y3 capacitors to IEC 60384-14 may be
$ a- U' E1 v xaccepted as Operational or Basic insulation when the capacitors are used in circuits compatible
; X0 z! x2 y3 Q) G0 c" [- R' _& twith their ratings. Therefore, these capacitors do not need to be provided with an additional,6 y: g- w# m8 l* r
definable insulation level when the capacitor casing is acting as Basic or Operational insulation.
' R7 K8 Z- Z V7 a(Y1 capacitors may be accepted as Reinforced insulation also.)0 J3 ]4 k4 c6 q
Capacitor casings of X1, Y1, and Y2 capacitors Recognized to UL 1414 under Across-The-Line8 z; j% T7 \, @9 V
Capacitors, Antenna Coupling and Line-By-Pass Components (FOWX2) may also be accepted2 o$ e7 G5 Z. E" ~# p* n/ [
as Operational or Basic insulation when the capacitors are used in circuits compatible with their. T4 S/ d' C2 P8 ]* w
ratings. Therefore, these components do not need to be provided with an additional, definable insulation level, such as Recognized Component – Tubing, when adequate clearances are not

Filters (FOKY2) also may be accepted as Operational or Basic Insulation when the capacitors

Under IEC 60384-14, X1, X2, X3, Y2, and Y3 capacitors are subjected to a minimum Electric
: c) h, a# U& H5 }Strength Test of 2000 V rms between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors are subjected to a 4000
0 X3 B# D- U4 A( ]! s/ eV test. (Y4 are only subjected to a 900 V test).
! \2 i$ o3 G6 L2 |! m- Q& [For Recognized Component FOWX2 capacitors, UL 1414 now covers X1, Y1 and Y2 capacitors,
1 g$ b- N; Y; @8 x# v# {- F' x) Tand the minimum Electric Strength Test is 2000 V between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors" L& x t( r" O
are subjected to a 4000 V test.
+ ^. W Z& {9 D6 ^For Recognized Component FOKY2 capacitors, UL 1283 requires the insulation between live7 F# N& ~7 v- p4 u8 J2 m8 g; j
parts and casing is required to pass a 2Vr+1500V (Vrating =< 250V) electric strength test.
: y2 A4 O. X4 C7 m7 |2 oAdditionally, the case is required to be V-2 or less flammable (or equivalent), and meet UL 746C+ o6 ]6 y5 M5 `5 @- i. a
(or generic) insulation requirements.' h# N1 `( J- e. N4 s. E$ w
