Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?8 d+ a! o( v+ U6 K0 G# d- p4 _
Decision: Yes, provided that:
; @4 y2 ^* i3 b) H1 T& r) |- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN
P( n' x$ \4 b$ G! B: ^7 I61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1
: V1 {5 ]6 q1 n! f9 o8 m I(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength
! r+ q; N! |* W1 C# u zranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be
8 }1 f& w3 E1 H$ V( v" mused without problems for lighting purposes without protection.7 {- B8 \" i( H' o0 Y/ F$ F
- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried; h1 O1 I5 E8 X' U2 Q1 N
out as follows:
: d% O5 V' ?/ Pa) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested" D: V2 G @" r8 j3 E; B" b7 j7 k
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
" C& I {: f2 p! S. w6 [b) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary
- ?$ t! L9 l: h* H% G8 t3 c: g3 binformation to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.* o& x' `' k% H8 f. f7 M
Alternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the
3 T( C2 E# ?+ E3 A" F& }trade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate
" K8 l5 O7 Z4 g5 }- o) ^ F( ^control gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the
9 ]* d: g5 g) Otype and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an
! g& p) o: h& x, e3 felectronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet& o: h/ {% d1 X" ]; w J
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required) J. o& I9 J6 E& q, _% ?
in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control
! J+ b/ Q8 P' ogear.
