With the advent of deregulation and the Federal Communications Commission "encouragement" for private industry to establish certification standards to fill the licensing void, iNARTE initiated and developed a comprehensive certification program for telecommunications engineers and technicians. / m4 t; n1 p D1 a8 h

In 1988, a Command of the United States Navy, seeking a credible and respected certification entity, selected iNARTE as the administrative agent for the certification of engineers and technicians in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). * d4 @* J H4 m

In 1993, iNARTE was recommended for and certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a Commercial Operators License Examination Manager (COLE Manager), authorized to administer all examination elements for FCC licensure, (formerly a FCC responsibility). ! t9 G- j, g. r/ t" a' i) c* E

The competency of iNARTE certified personnel has prompted many of the telephone, rail, power, pipe line, and other industry corporations to mandate or prefer iNARTE certification as a pre-requisite to employment.

R. ?1 t5 p6 S; n7 IiNARTE is governed by a membership elected Board of Directors (12) and four (4) officers, each with exceptional expertise and experience in the telecommunications, EMC and/or ESD fields, who serve the membership. This governing Board receives no compensation in any form. Policy is formed at the Board level and promulgated to the iNARTE Executive Director for implementation. Since 1982, the International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Eletromagnetics, Inc. has certified more than sixteen thousand engineers and technicians in the following four areas. : J$ U4 g/ a: o
Telecommunications Telecommunications is the science and technology of communication (as opposed to processing of information) at a distance by electronic transmission of impulses, such as by telegraph, cable, telephone, radio, or television. iNARTE's Telecom certification is applicable to professionals practicing a wide range of telecommunications disciplines, including photonic systems, PCS/PCN, cellular, satellite, LAN, WAN and many more. Experience required: 2 years for Junior level, 6 years for Senior level, 8 or more years for Master level.& s! n. a7 S# v6 j8 x
' c" [5 e6 l r n9 @3 [Unlicensed Wireless Systems Installation Wireless certification applies to engineers and technicians who design and install unlicensed wireless systems. This program has been established by iNARTE to meet industry demands for a credential which distinguishes from marginally to fully qualified design and installation personnel for wireless systems which do not require a license from the FCC. Experience required: 6 years for Technician, 9 years for Engineer.; v& b4 p9 k8 V0 N1 @# B
: A- x5 p% @ dElectromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/EMI) EMC certification is applicable to professional engineers and technicians practicing in EMC fields to include bonding, shielding, grounding, EMI prediction, EMI analysis, conducted and radiated interference, lightning protection and more. The ability to effectively manage product safety in design, manufacture, installation and operational use is a mandatory requirement of all world-wide product safety legislation. Initiated by the Telecommunications Act of 1996, this effort seeks to develop guidelines and criteria for "readily achievable access" for disabled persons. iNARTE enables the establishment of the Association of Access Engineering Specialists as a sub-unit of the NARTE organization.' q' P! 2000 iNARTE establishes the Unlicensed Wireless Systems Installer certification to identify fully qualified design and installation personnel. This certification accredits professionals who design and install wireless systems which do not require a license from the FCC, including information systems, security systems and transportation systems.

0 G$ C$ W0 l. O# g5 d- i2003 iNARTE, in cooperation with e-Global Education Partnership develops competency certification for product safety engineers and technicians.
