The apparatus covered by this standard is subdivided into categories. For each category,0 `/ T4 c& a! y0 f' Y6 T

4.1 Category I: apparatus containing no electronic control circuitry.9 W U) D$ m( Z- c
Examples: motor operated appliances, lighting toys, track sets without electronic control units,/ H; J1 F. W6 S% r2 {$ `
tools, heating appliances, UV and IR radiators and apparatus containing components such as
) w3 I" T/ A- v2 t0 i- a4 b Zelectromechanical switches and thermostats.& ?5 i3 O% H/ C! _' {
Electric circuits consisting of passive components (such as radio interference suppression% v9 Q u9 u5 v4 b
capacitors or inductors, mains transformers and mains frequency rectifiers) are not considered4 _, {1 M9 `& P8 G7 p; P& x
to be electronic control circuitry.! C5 d+ {; c& S1 S
4.2 Category II: transformer toys, dual supply toys, mains powered motor operated appliances,
. d: W5 d2 _6 x3 j+ i7 M" U5 N# B3 vtools, heating appliances and similar electric apparatus (for example – UV radiators, IR radiators
0 ?, @+ F9 o# W" }2 v8 `, dand microwave ovens) containing electronic control circuitry with no internal clock frequency or
. |* @' S- f$ f0 ^; y, Foscillator frequency higher than 15 MHz.
$ v* J5 r2 l/ c6 V0 S' t( e$ DNOTE For toys, examples include educational computers, organs, track sets with electronic control units.
; _1 R' S: x }- f0 l# L/ D4.3 Category III: battery powered apparatus (with built-in batteries or external batteries), ~- f: [# S# k; ]
which in normal use is not connected to the mains, containing an electronic control circuitry! b4 p; U0 A6 z5 o6 u$ e# t) z
with no internal clock frequency or oscillator frequency higher than 15 MHz.
& F+ \: B9 d1 i4 p! ` X O$ O/ sThis category includes apparatus provided with rechargeable batteries which can be charged# p1 \& Y7 L+ b
by connecting the apparatus to the mains power. However, this apparatus shall also be tested
( y% w! s. z$ Z) u* y# Ias an apparatus in category II while it is connected to the mains network.; [) c; b0 ~, I) g3 ]7 y1 R& m
NOTE For toys, examples include musical soft toys, cord-controlled toys and motor-operated electronic toys.
