3 ^: A9 X ? S5 [2 q4 Sassembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory
. c. I4 _$ @7 U; N; F0 o" a$ J& Tinstalled components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They" N) v4 h. H( C( {6 M
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
& q/ L/ i j2 C5 a- @% _& v, Q5 @electrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
$ }4 N, ]( S* t' \; a+ cstrain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,: n; @- [6 E# [6 u8 ]; X* t
traceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is
7 z' S/ ^9 x H0 ]1 pnot possible at an end-product factory location. This program can6 P& x |/ `! n, s
be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally
, ^6 x) m3 `+ H5 Z5 F' Econstructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally& u" J/ O4 e; A6 A* A5 ?
designed for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram
9 B7 H. O J, F+ gor carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for( _3 C# T9 G0 y6 y2 r
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power2 Q6 k, V4 B0 `% B5 v
supply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as
M& b* n G; P2 s( p }a motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
& `" _7 B! h' X, [8 c% ?( ~Method of traceability
/ _0 Z( x) [8 Q8 qAn off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
9 M' m. c; v5 d$ n7 za harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product5 B, \3 k8 Q! S/ j
manufacturer that details construction elements and components
/ T- V! P6 A* y- p" }+ M2 Gto be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer
- _9 u& o- v$ J3 p/ Awill assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications
0 q8 n6 R- H7 j* a" j" @. G3 D4 R2 }and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these' t* |4 Q3 U, k/ H* d0 O
specifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
4 v$ |/ c$ g1 p6 e; `# E+ z( Cthese construction elements is further determined at an end-product
# q" i8 i; D3 M/ _: q( umanufacturing location and involves verifying that these features
( P1 c4 w* b! l& ycomply with an end-product Follow-Up Services procedure.
( j' U7 n0 H2 Q) y5 r: RThe UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit
: G) H( h Z' ` Mcontainer in which a product is packaged is the only method used
