Canada’s Ministry of the Environment has proposed a law to prohibit the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in specified products. It is also known as the Bisphenol A (BPA) Control Act. The BPA act was first read on 6 Feb 2009 in Canada’s House of Commons and shall come into force within six months of enactment.* }& V* B7 E5 h6 L$ `( O7 A
The Bisphenol A (BPA) Control Act of Canada prohibits the use of BPA in the following specified products:
8 l5 X$ E- V$ H5 ~" s; G• Food and drink packaging, including food cans, beverage cans, bottle tops and plastic containers for beverages, including bottled water$ ]7 A. q7 J7 K' W u1 f0 g/ E
• Products designed to feed infants, including feeding bottles, sippy cups and other similar products
+ x; X2 F( m: x! ~• Reusable water bottles sold for hiking and other recreational outdoor uses and reusable food containers
8 E6 F. X* d8 @8 p5 a3 R• Dental polymers, including dental sealants • Water supply pipes

6 s: t. y6 ?6 Q3 x5 {) WCanada is the first country in the world to announce a proposed ban on the use of BPA in specified products.
7 n0 V0 Q6 p, M9 E/ m- N# T) W' {BPA is a chemical that is typically found in polycarbonate (PC) plastic and $ |3 a) x5 j0 L* L3 ~2 s
epoxy, and is also used as a polymerization inhibitor in polyvinyl chloride$ T8 `+ k- ]- H: j' z9 R8 U
(PVC). It is commonly used in PVC baby bottles, tableware, and food ware.
" X1 b: B! g5 JThe addition of BPA allows plastics to withstand higher temperatures.& L# B0 U( L8 _ D
