65 Abnormal Operation Test

encountered in actual service, the product shall not cause a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons
" X/ j; o# d$ Q: T( x4 ^4 `when operated under such abnormal conditions.
& Y; V6 Z" }' y& H, x" _! {65.1.2 The conditions resulting from abnormal operation of a product shall be confined by the enclosure# A+ P W. {2 G1 i; Q1 H; Y- Y* M7 K
when the product is subjected to tests such as blocked armature in a relay, transformer burnout, stalled+ o6 @+ g0 T6 s% |3 H
rotor, operation without liquids, or other conditions that may be encountered in service.
. y6 x* ^5 |$ S9 A4 {9 R) o65.1.3 An electrode-type product shall be operated as described in Clause 65.1.4 until ultimate results are4 o6 H6 b) E$ l
obtained. The results shall not be acceptable if a nonintegral branch-circuit protector trips during the test.
6 p' b l0 J5 q/ t8 DAfter the test, the product shall comply with the Starting Test, Clause 55 and the Input Test, Clause 56.& \3 ]' L$ N0 R8 ~. j7 e; h
Exception: A product need not be subjected to this test if the water-level-limiting device operates for
0 F9 F/ n) k* J& G* t9 r' z100,000 cycles with no mechanical or electrical malfunction or significant pitting or burning of the contacts.0 g3 n& }/ a/ E6 t
65.1.4 The product shall be mounted as intended and connected to a source of rated voltage. The drain* T" \5 r+ U2 V3 a
valve shall be blocked closed, the water-inlet valve blocked open, each water-level-limiting device shall: _ d2 |2 c7 e/ m3 e
be bypassed, and the electrodes are to be electrically connected. In addition, the product shall be* B) c; J; \% E0 ^
mechanically and electrically isolated from any ground means. If the hardness of the water may be a" ~0 t9 h% a6 g5 e; X9 n
factor, the test shall be performed with a solution of 0.5 g (0.018 oz) of calcium sulfate (CaSO4) per litre
5 \8 w ?4 D9 D7 s! J6 Cof distilled water. The product shall be operated until ultimate results are obtained.
3 U# C. j, u! ?% e! W& H3 ?65.1.5 A product that is permanently connected to a water supply shall be operated without water.
