2.10.5 Solid insulation

* [; {7 l- c! Z0 ^4 \6 C& i− so dimensioned that overvoltages, including transients, that enter the equipment, and$ v4 R( q( _5 U+ `+ m3 j+ N
peak voltages that may be generated within the equipment, do not break down the SOLID" }# ^" `" W9 M4 E
INSULATION; and8 A* F' ~' _- D0 |3 W
− so arranged that the likelihood of breakdown occurring due to the presence of pinholes in
3 W! X$ f( H- e' Gthin layers of insulation is limited., g8 H$ Q9 @! r& f2 ` @/ w
Solvent-based enamel is accepted only on winding wire as described in 2.10.5.13.
# g/ a( f9 l# k8 v' `- AExcept for printed boards, SOLID INSULATION shall either8 g8 s9 H4 S, t8 f- f$ u' g" D
− comply with minimum distances through insulation in accordance with 2.10.5.2; or
8 ^* x: P0 ^/ x& y( L7 L$ t− meet the requirements and pass the tests in 2.10.5.3 to 2.10.5.13, as applicable.% [" R0 z, B5 I' C0 o( r

Compliance with the requirements of 2.10.5.2 to 2.10.5.14 for the adequacy of SOLID9 h& }8 H6 `" V6 X% q
INSULATION is verified by inspection and measurement, taking into account Annex F, by the! x& ?& F( w0 z5 V( s' C
electric strength tests of 5.2 and by any additional tests required in 2.10.5.4 to 2.10.5.14.: N. k* K3 k2 B: X
2.10.5.2 Distances through insulation- u6 w. S i# [6 H2 N
If a design is based on distances through insulation, these distances shall be dimensioned

− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE does not exceed 71 V, there is no requirement for distance
, o4 E2 A- _6 r4 _: z( j7 X$ gthrough insulation;
! M( B* r1 e% b2 j9 d9 ~− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE exceeds 71 V, the f ollowing rules apply:# O3 I1 b' K, X2 [% F5 E
• for FUNCTIONAL INSULATION and BASIC INSULATION there is no minimum distance through

/ K G9 w/ ^1 N Q5 i• SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION or REINFORCED INSULATION shall have a distance through
