Question:
4 W% E8 @  D' o$ h: i( TClause 4.3.21 requires that two levels of protection are required to prevent forced or reversed charge

or ic has been considered suitable and is for the series current path. However, a new consideration- d+ {; F( F0 P; D
has been raised in respect of adjacent tracks, separated by no more than operational insulation, which,, I; m% w& c* B  P8 r) }
under s/c conditions will bypass the protective series components and provide charging current for$ q5 D/ c6 u% X1 w6 V# C
either chargeable or non-rechargeable batteries. Does this mean that there is therefore a requirement6 l# h! _. v" Y; t
for Reinforced separation?  V, p* ^/ H# \3 H) g0 o: f, W
If that is the case, then the controlling factor is the clearance of 0.8mm in Table 5 (circuits not subject
& C% q: I& f6 G  K) S4 r* H" ]to transient over voltage). This is based on the fact that creepage cannot be less than clearance and
) l# R. {7 u. e2 W) y! A% N& Qcreepage can be calculated to be, for example at +5V, 0.4mm (based on rounding up 0.12mm to
" Z- I4 d( g/ j% \- a" E0.2mm for Basic and doubling for reinforced.9 X5 J4 E. v! G; O" ]. @/ n

Operational insulation is suitable taking into account 5.4.4 because there is no risk of electric shock.
