Decision: In principle, apply the requirements given in IEC/EN 60825-1 (*)-(#). However
! J( n6 w+ A( u" v# J* {' Min order to avoid expensive measurements, luminaires provided with LEDs
3 z, X9 C& J' [% u2 A9 q+ lshould be treated as follows:
9 e# h& Z/ T( G$ D7 C- If the light intensity is low, i.e. from a conventional LED for indication or signalling
: d# `" Z9 z* G7 B D4 o4 wpurposes, the LED is most likely comparable with a laser of Class 1 according to IEC/EN) r; ^ s/ k: A: }3 M, u8 q; ^
60825-1 (*)-(#) and consequently there is no need for measurements. During the
) c4 P" b9 Q+ F( |! T- Xjudgement, the covers, optics and similar parts that can be removed by hand, shall be' i4 i) a1 E8 ^1 {4 @6 ~! p+ f1 ^* ?; M( r
removed. In the TRF, it is indicated that the light intensity has been judged to comply y1 n9 B+ g2 } m, H. l; C
with the limits given for Class 1 lasers in IEC/EN 60825-1 (*)-(#) and that no$ P f4 z* F: Y: v6 Y* \
measurement is made." }! \1 P, P7 N# o9 a& j, |
- In all other cases the luminaire manufacturer shall be asked to provide a declaration based
8 m& D2 U( Z6 }1 G$ s4 Xon relevant tests (e.g. from the LEDs manufacturer) showing that the radiation from the5 L1 X e7 X, m$ Z4 V" x, t
LED module does not exceed the values given in IEC/EN 60825-1 (*)-(#) for Class 1. u( |# v& |( {9 Y/ N
or1M lasers with or without optics. In the TRF, it is indicated that judgement is based on
) c! S8 S# V3 `4 H# \+ Y' Umanufacturer’s declaration.
9 `" g2 ~* g, I& x- If such a declaration is not provided or if judgement not possible, the measurements5 [6 K+ L- W! X* [, E9 [7 W
given in IEC/EN 60825-1 (*)-(#) shall be performed. In the TRF, it is indicated that
& _' |3 ]. b$ [ g/ m" Y# }8 Nmeasurements have been performed. For luminaires containing light sources providing
9 ]" A5 c. Y$ Y; n$ N& uradiation according to Class 2 lasers, the luminaire shall be treated as a laser source
% F1 g/ S) \7 _+ O/ \according to IEC/EN 60825-1 (*)-(#) and comply with the requirements given in that
& b0 _8 P& R% m4 X( t( g, E; S2 Tstandard.
* n6 r! _* x; }, c3 XInformation about the action taken in relation to the LED radiation should be provided in the
* g* S) b" }/ D5 b {9 I& f- msquare “Summary of testing” on page 2 of the relevant TRF.
