Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?# v) t/ t) g+ ?4 h$ w
Decision: Yes, provided that:
/ f2 T9 Z4 r' _0 I" d+ {& B' B- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN
, g) I) z$ C# t! I61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1
% z3 B# Y. X$ U5 G7 z(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength
. y4 H L! ^; |5 a2 ~) ]ranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be$ j. G/ @% ^ T/ ]" a) T
used without problems for lighting purposes without protection.; V- ~" g! q0 G+ \ o9 o
- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried
' W: M( F- {" q1 cout as follows:3 B, a" R5 P4 {& H7 U. ^
a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested
: M3 ]+ ]3 @% J0 w- Y7 i8 [according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
0 j5 `* k. H/ N" F/ Z$ `3 ~b) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary4 P5 }% z y7 H! A% \
information to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.* i( ~7 H7 W3 X {. M
Alternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the
$ J9 L- I/ D8 g# Wtrade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate7 }. u) ^/ k# j6 f9 e1 b4 T
control gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the1 x' A( H) d3 ~( v. e7 \* q
type and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an
3 h2 J- w: D$ W0 }4 melectronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet+ ]% l8 Y& O/ g* M9 V$ }
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required4 w* J. ^7 Z& t5 v
in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control8 _3 l4 v' m: h7 e
gear.
