Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?
Decision: Yes, provided that:
9 _  ~% ^7 e1 ?(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
! e, R, U; m+ L% {3 Z" v61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 1
4 z2 f9 q: v5 [' }5 {1 X- z$ N9 E+ Lmm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems
for lighting purposes without protection.
(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as

, S! }% b: T( L(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
- o! [8 ?/ w" U& U; I(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
& }' v& n& ^0 V. mthe instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit
correctly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type
and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
& M9 V2 a& Q. t6 Mbe three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the
& ?4 K' p' E5 jluminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the
luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be
) E+ C) G( v- Jcarried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with
' C8 d# h* `9 ^* Pthe appropriate control gear.
