Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?" c3 k) |0 M% d: }& ~
Decision: Yes, provided that:
0 t( h2 M3 L1 _ E- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN1 f3 }3 ]% [; u' f; T* Q
61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1
4 J& g# c3 ]" l+ H0 B(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength( W4 Q8 A6 D( G1 ~. w
ranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be% [" d. q: H5 f0 {, i4 v1 ]
used without problems for lighting purposes without protection./ P5 Z. o! d+ @. G/ i
- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried* ?# X: {) P$ K! L' l [5 @% q" x
out as follows:
* e; P* c- G4 j4 u9 r0 ya) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested
/ l0 P. ^2 L0 Waccording to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.4 ^) \, Z+ X; `$ }1 z) A
b) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary7 C) [6 x' j' j
information to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.2 G+ z7 w0 {4 R, @* f
Alternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the
! X- P |1 u" ~' c' y9 U' y3 g/ k* Jtrade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate7 x B/ P5 C2 `& i
control gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the
' x. Z% ~- z8 Ytype and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an
" F0 l7 ?5 L7 ?! }! l' gelectronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet' B( I; a$ F0 L8 F( A
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required/ O5 H! k" v! f6 `# N" n' d+ j3 V i) C
in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control
+ }% E1 V. Z! r- B$ c) ogear.
