Emergency luminaire comprising two separate parts:
# Y" f6 B: E: l! R% Ta) a box with the battery, battery charger and the electronic ballast;
$ D7 ^( v3 @( u, nb) an optical case with the lamp, LED and a part of electronic circuit.
Both parts are connected with a 2-core cable with a maximum length of 8 m. The box cannot work alone
(without the optical case) and the optical case cannot work with other separate ballast (but has to be
connected only with this box).
A) Is it possible to classify the above mentioned product as "self contained emergency luminaire", even if
the distance between the two parts is longer than 1m (see § 22.3.8)?
9 D4 r1 X! t. R/ YB) Can the connecting cable between the two parts be supplied and connected by the installer?
Decision:
A A) According to IEC 60598-2-22, this is not a self contained luminaire but a power supply and slave
luminaire, as such an installer would be expected to make the connection between the two parts. The
+ Y: J1 i* P1 [/ U& U0 i2 kappliance in question is a centrally supplied emergency luminaire; the box containing the control gear
. v" p% ^1 k: p2 p1 Ashall comply with the requirements as for self contained luminaire (it cannot be called “luminaire”, it
doesn’t contain any light source). The whole assembly shall be provided with adequate information in the
mounting instructions.
B) The connecting cable/connection can be supplied/made by the installer, if a normal cable is used (PVC
or Rubber), and the instruction are sufficiently clear in order to avoid any connection mistake.
