This International Standard deals with safety aspects of power transformers, power supplies,7 S- T7 k! O" c" C. i( \9 ?2 k4 {* P6 u
reactors and similar products such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety.1 C7 H1 X4 H: x' ~
This standard covers the following types of dry-type transformers, power supplies, including

NOTE 1 The distinction between transformers, power supplies and switch mode power supplies is as follows:
! Y- [' b; B! n0 }% g# d4 I3 e– for transformers, there is no change in frequency .However, transformers (e.g. constant voltage
7 Q* j; p" O& H6 {. H; A8 M; B+ Atransformers) may have an internal resonance frequency not exceeding 30 kHz;
: \1 L" J9 W& t) r( c– for power supplies, the internal operational frequency and waveform are different from the supply frequency
* b' j" _8 b# X# r* A* _. Wand waveform, and the internal operational frequency does not exceed 500 Hz (see definition 3.1.19);

NOTE 3 Normally, the transformers of type b) are intended to be associated with the equipment to provide

electric shock may be provided or completed by other features of the equipment, such as the body. Parts of output: Q$ p3 S, h4 N  S6 m$ w9 b
circuits may be connected to the input circuit or to the protective earth.

exceeding 1 000 VA and where the tw-temperature does not exceed 140 °C (tw 140).

This standard also applies to transformers, power supplies, switch mode power supplies,& S7 d( `* r6 J$ s

This standard does not apply to external circuits and their components intended to be

supplies and switch mode power supplies, and reactors.

– for transformers intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from
  O( Y8 _  Y* h* D6 aother applicable standards, National Rules, etc...) may be necessary;3 t% j# s% K! u' {
– measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences like" r6 w2 G$ W/ P9 a0 B5 V' K9 Y* U
fungus, vermin , termites, solar-radiation, and icing should also be considered;8 T6 J* \; i6 j! W- N7 m
– the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the transformers should also be

NOTE 7 Future technological development of transformers may necessitate a need to increase the upper limit of: ]( _( Z5 r% O9 f
