Decision: In principle apply the requirements given in IEC/EN 60825-1. However in order9 y4 ^* u! V; U$ r
to avoid expensive measurements, the luminaires provided with LEDs should be

3 t" d/ M8 q! V. Z" D: n( C' _- If the light intensity is low, i.e. from a conventional LED for indication or signalling
6 m0 Y6 m' I1 [. o0 Qpurposes, the LED is most likely comparable with a laser of Class 1 according to+ V+ E9 D' Y2 R
IEC/EN 60825-1 and consequently there is no need measurements. During the$ G; X# H4 K0 }4 x( j+ K
judgement the covers, optics and similar, which can be removed by hand, shall be
4 W6 ?+ ^% _3 p& e B! Yremoved. In the TRF it is indicated that the light intensity has been judged to comply
/ j* @* j9 c8 C, D0 U+ Uwith the limits given for Class 1 lasers in IEC/EN 60825-1 and no measurements are

_( z, Z- S# Z, b5 }4 b- In all other cases the luminaire manufacturer shall be asked to provide a declaration
" v; h+ g3 ~5 C6 O7 l& sbased on relevant tests (e.g. from the LEDs manufacturer) showing that the radiation
2 ?1 J0 k1 x, Lfrom the LED module will not exceed the values given in IEC/EN 60825-1 for Class 1: r3 S, B9 U7 V5 f6 L$ ^9 c
or1M lasers with or without optics. In the TRF it is noted that judgements have been

- If such a declaration cannot be provided or if we are insecure on how to judge, the% s. \! e9 @. H/ R# E3 w: t
measurements given in IEC/EN 60825-1 shall be performed. In the TRF it is indicated6 H4 V6 p: W1 T7 D# v
that measurements have been performed. For luminaires containing light sources
' Q8 F2 K6 V1 m7 _" nproviding radiation according to Class 2 lasers, the luminaire shall be treated as a laser x; M( I( O& L' n$ w
source according to IEC/EN 60825-1 and comply with the requirements given in that5 j- n9 L$ K+ \: U. \( a) Y+ r
standard.
