Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?

, Z1 O6 i5 E! T0 ?3 {(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
* G  v3 p# A4 C8 Z  T& |9 I5 B: R: [61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 1
0 t9 f" s6 @) t* @  i6 f/ Ymm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems
for lighting purposes without protection.
(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as
follows:
: j& w* h  v3 J$ C* t(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
the instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit
/ a6 S/ E! n) U8 d5 l% Kcorrectly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type
and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
be three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the
luminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the
luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be
carried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with
the appropriate control gear.
(*) When IEC/EN 61347-2-13 will be published, it will takes over IEC/EN
61347-2-2.
