The apparatus covered by this standard is subdivided into categories. For each category,8 T7 \2 q" f& X, h4 t `2 F
specific requirements are formulated.
7 W7 D2 w9 Y/ B+ { d4.1 Category I: apparatus containing no electronic control circuitry.
) b( R* Z( X. \7 qExamples: motor operated appliances, lighting toys, track sets without electronic control units,4 V% e( S2 P( M9 Q, r9 N( T
tools, heating appliances, UV and IR radiators and apparatus containing components such as
+ c' E9 K: e' h9 [5 @) uelectromechanical switches and thermostats.
3 j! T2 r5 r. s( A) D- \6 |Electric circuits consisting of passive components (such as radio interference suppression
9 _# r7 I& r$ J. H: n* |! m1 C- s& vcapacitors or inductors, mains transformers and mains frequency rectifiers) are not considered
' z0 M- V7 N* S7 E! vto be electronic control circuitry.
: C8 I' t: w9 w; l3 d4.2 Category II: transformer toys, dual supply toys, mains powered motor operated appliances,3 P6 R. z w% }- w
tools, heating appliances and similar electric apparatus (for example – UV radiators, IR radiators& L" w3 c$ r! i( B0 O; \9 m1 B
and microwave ovens) containing electronic control circuitry with no internal clock frequency or
+ J0 S# k1 S8 q6 ^$ V8 G& T8 Eoscillator frequency higher than 15 MHz.
4 N! {+ h! A! Z# N& c7 LNOTE For toys, examples include educational computers, organs, track sets with electronic control units.8 N' ^- _ I5 f. z0 g: j
4.3 Category III: battery powered apparatus (with built-in batteries or external batteries),
2 ?4 y, x- Y' J- R ]5 g" [which in normal use is not connected to the mains, containing an electronic control circuitry% T* |+ F( `% a' I! w
with no internal clock frequency or oscillator frequency higher than 15 MHz.3 @$ k2 M0 W6 X: l0 }
This category includes apparatus provided with rechargeable batteries which can be charged) p. E. y9 |6 z4 q& g ]* ?
by connecting the apparatus to the mains power. However, this apparatus shall also be tested* p) k$ N$ v; S1 T6 y* m" g
as an apparatus in category II while it is connected to the mains network.
