Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?7 N f" I) w0 r- @$ ?2 K$ v4 o
Decision: Yes, provided that:
! c) T7 l* j( u. d$ R(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
0 u' d8 X+ C( L# c3 v% V61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 19 f M! D2 e9 M0 q! u. G
mm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser0 q1 S0 q; M' R+ o& R' H
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems
* ^' D" x/ j% ?# o) x& p$ y. }( v3 afor lighting purposes without protection.
) |- i, h- K! y4 M(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as

(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested) P$ S6 X% j) G! x
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
" V+ A7 Y. p; s9 } a& R(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
# W9 s( T3 Z6 U; athe instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit6 T1 N( {3 W* w( k5 q
correctly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type8 ~1 J- @$ i( A+ `; c9 G: ~
and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can3 k' _6 w6 ]2 t0 c( q
be three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the
& W! Z: _5 U) jluminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the' F" ~* y; u) D( y
luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be
! x; H) a! d3 Z' N9 G1 |; ocarried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with2 M) A8 w3 N* M
the appropriate control gear.
