Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?
' P5 W; }6 o- q& k6 I' M, rDecision: Yes, provided that:: u" s1 g1 g3 {+ c) k0 ~
- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN- p) m4 B. I; v2 k+ b+ C
61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1
4 {2 G3 d% o: G& e5 B4 h( a, x(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength- u, g8 T3 R/ `
ranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be
3 b6 r5 n$ E- L4 v, |% }7 Eused without problems for lighting purposes without protection., w9 q* t6 g, h9 `
- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried

a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested) Y( v9 p/ Y; T& L1 f* c6 M
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
) n4 J6 T' m5 K# b8 eb) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary
, t% q% n* }1 c5 [" f* Finformation to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.
3 Q0 @9 O" _. M- c1 nAlternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the
: p' r" `. F# V! j2 K! [1 Q4 k* rtrade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate2 d; U% [0 X/ ?% ^0 E8 E9 D
control gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the
( U; |, w, n: ~; k* E, d: q$ E5 qtype and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an
3 ]0 x& ^% E0 v, x1 L2 N6 a; Relectronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet: `: `4 C7 q( w: [+ P2 |+ n4 q
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required
: T& [- I0 ^! v+ L2 j) jin Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control4 s7 H# z" I- _ i1 E p( w9 p
