Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?
! h D3 d* L# qDecision: Yes, provided that:
9 ]: Z' g {3 I9 Z( D$ D$ l- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN
/ E1 C, u1 ]/ A2 m# R% C5 f61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1$ ~5 Q/ c E) K! T
(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength8 q! [& K8 p1 x' D$ p
ranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be- ?6 }' h# V1 c5 ~& {8 Q: q; A3 _
used without problems for lighting purposes without protection.
- s5 _9 C$ p8 V0 ]7 e! R- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried# {. S! {7 t9 A1 {3 l7 ]
out as follows:
1 A2 E& z0 d' x* T3 ba) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested
8 {, E, V0 X s" aaccording to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.5 y" F4 } @% [/ q; s0 H
b) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary4 V D& a0 `& P( q
information to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.
. [: ?6 E' l& x) h+ J8 J; MAlternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the1 ^* t9 [; c/ }( B- ?, t
trade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate
1 ]/ @, u) y2 _8 l: S% ]control gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the
6 G+ J7 d9 t+ Qtype and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an, J, }" Z4 v! W% N* Y' k+ z
electronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet$ B% y4 t, J% u5 L
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required* {5 q+ \2 A* V# f
in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control
) f7 v1 N2 J8 H6 B: ggear., C- U! _/ J1 g7 v: Y+ L3 ]5 k- n
