THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

Having regard to the proposal from the Commission (1), 2 T7 s' R0 z* e

Whereas Council Decision 90/683/EEC of 13 December 1990 concerning the modules for the various phases of the conformity assessment procedures which are intended to be used in the technical harmonization directives (4) needs to be substantially amended in various places; whereas it is necessary, in a spirit of clarity and rationality, to consolidate its provisions by means of this Decision; * C! Whereas the Council adopted a Resolution on 21 December 1989 concerning a global approach to conformity assessments (5);
6 [! a+ u) h1 E6 R( qWhereas the introduction of harmonized methods for the assessment of conformity and the adoption of a common doctrine for their implementation are likely to facilitate the adoption of future technical harmonization directives concerning the placing on the market of industrial products and thus be conducive to the implementation of the internal market;
2 b; h! l2 g5 S. |# R/ L/ vWhereas such methods should ensure that products are in full conformity with the essential requirements laid down in the technical harmonization directives, in order to provide, in particular, for the health and safety of users and consumers; * ~8 x2 L+ J: l
Whereas such conformity should be assured without imposing unnecessarily onerous conditions on manufacturers, and by means of clear and comprehensible procedures;
0 ], ]" B# \; bWhereas limited flexibility should be introduced as regards use of additional modules, or variations in the modules, when the specific circumstances of a particular sector or directive so warrant, but not to such a degree as to undercut the purpose of the current Decision and only when explicitly justified;
4 ?2 W, ]6 F$ B$ o0 tWhereas in the abovementioned Resolution of 21 December 1989 the Council approved as a guiding principle the adoption of common rules on the use of the CE marking; 1 e& T" O4 ~' f- R
Whereas in its Decision 90/683/EEC the Council laid down that the industrial products covered by the technical harmonization directives can be placed on the market only after the manufacturer has affixed the CE marking to them; ) n9 r% {3 g5 }3 j7 ]* R
Whereas a single CE marking should be used in order to facilitate controls on the Community market by inspectors and to clarify the obligations of economic operators in respect of marking under the various Community regulations;
) [" a  R/ _) }8 P3 y7 LWhereas the aim of the CE marking is to symbolize the conformity of a product with the levels of protection of collective interests imposed by the total harmonization directives and to indicate that the economic operator has undergone all the evaluation procedures laid down by Community law in respect of his product,

1. The procedures for conformity assessment which are to be used in the technical harmonization directives relating to the marketing of industrial products will be chosen from among the modules listed in the Annex and in accordance with the criteria set out in this Decision and in the general guidelines in the Annex.
; l- ?! X- j9 E+ O* ]+ cThese procedures may only depart from the modules when the specific circumstances of a particular sector or directive so warrant. Such departures from the modules must be limited in extent and must be explicitly justified in the relevant directive. " l6 h+ j. k! _3 r6 [) g/ N2 b
2. This Decision lays down rules for affixing the CE conformity marking provided for in Community legislation concerning the design, manufacture, placing on the market, entry into service or use of industrial products. 8 b& g5 ?/ Q1 J' w$ L* v1 W$ L9 g% i
3. The Commission shall report periodically on the functioning of this Decision, and on whether conformity assessment and CE marking procedures are working satisfactorily or need to be modified.
1 e6 ^  k* r2 X0 J8 F0 G1 ENo later than the end of the transitional period in 1997, or earlier if the matter is found to be urgent, the Commission shall also report back on any special problems raised by the incorporation of Council Directive 73/23/EEC of 19 February 1973 relating to electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits (6) within the scope of CE marking procedures, and, in particular, whether safety is being compromised. It shall also review any problems raised by the issue of overlapping Council directives, and whether any further Community measures are required. 2 r3 e0 q" L! G- i/ v7 O* E

# k# `2 N. p# H3 X8 c, KCONFORMITY ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES AND CE MARKING IN THE TECHNICAL HARMONIZATION DIRECTIVES I. GENERAL GUIDELINES8 M& {, a6 R! |2 l3 o" v: e
A. The principal guidelines for the use of conformity assessment procedures in technical harmonization directives are the following: : x5 \/ b2 ]7 @8 f* i
(a) the essential objective of a conformity assessment procedure is to enable the public authorities to ensure that products placed on the market conform to the requirements as expressed in the provisions of the directives, in particular with regard to the health and safety of users and consumers;
8 L% G/ l8 w9 o/ B% L(b) conformity assessment can be subdivided into modules which relate to the design phase of products and to their production phase; ) U0 J, d0 s  c: Y+ m  P
(c) as a general rule a product should be subject to both phases before being able to be placed on the market if the results are positive (1)(); ; K1 J! w; x7 e% J# y
(d) there are a variety of modules which cover the two phases in a variety of ways. The directives must set the range of possible choices which can be considered by the Council to give the public authorities the high level of safety they seek, for a given product or product sector; 7 ]) k/ b& e$ F6 J
(e) in setting the range of possible choices open to the manufacturer, the directives, will take into consideration, in particular, such issues as the appropriateness of the modules to the type of products, the nature of the risks involved, the economic infrastructures of the given sector (e.g. existence or non-existence of third parties), the types and importance of production, etc. The factors that have been taken into account must be explicitly spelled out by the Commission in these directives;
- ^0 }8 p% R! s: U. q/ i) ?(f) the directives will, in setting the range of possible modules for a given product or product sector, attempt to leave as wide a choice to the manufacturer as is consistent with ensuring compliance with the requirements.
1 t' K/ ?" {7 |" I. w' YThe directives will set out the criteria governing the conditions in which the manufacturer chooses the most appropriate modules for his production from the modules laid down by the directives; 4 A1 ^3 x3 s8 R
(g) the directives should avoid imposing unnecessarily modules which would be too onerous relative to the objectives of the directive concerned; 3 K6 G: e5 f0 [: F- A* T: r6 L
(h) notified bodies should be encouraged to apply the modules without unnecessary burden for the economic operators. The Commission, in cooperation with the Member States, must ensure that close cooperation is organized between the notified bodies in order to ensure consistent technical application of the modules;   K; N! B9 k) |; t' [- O* R" f
(i) in order to protect the manufacturers, the technical documentation provided to notified bodies has to be limited to that which is required solely for the purpose of assessment of conformity. Legal protection of confidential information is required;
& m6 i- W! B8 J- Z(j) whenever directives provide the manufacturer with the possibility of using modules based on quality assurance techniques, the manufacturer must also be able to have recourse to a combination of modules not using quality assurance, and vice versa, except where compliance with the requirements laid down by the directives requires the exclusive application of a certain procedure;
( w) T. _! q  s1 j(k) for the purposes of operating the modules, Member States must notify on their own responsibility bodies under their jurisdiction which they have chosen from the technically competent bodies complying with the requirements of the directives. This responsibility involves the obligation for the Member States to ensure that the notified bodies permanently have the technical qualifications required by the directives and that the latter keep their competent national authorities informed of the performance of their tasks. Where a Member State withdraws its notification of a body, it must take appropriate steps to ensure that the dossiers are processed by another notified body to ensure continuity; * `' Y9 L9 l- G) T. j+ |# u
(l) in addition, with regard to conformity assessment, the sub-contracting of work shall be subject to certain conditions guaranteeing: 4 \6 Q& H/ B! X2 _
- the competence of the establishment operating as sub-contractor, on the basis of conformity with series EN 45 000 standards, and the capability of the Member State that has notified the sub-contracting body to ensure effective monitoring of such compliance,
- r, J# G" E  x1 ], ?1 I, Z# o- the ability of the body notified to exercise effective responsibility for the work carried out under sub-contract;
7 ]6 _/ S0 W9 q1 m0 B7 ?1 H% O, k& y(m) notified bodies which can prove their conformity with harmonized standards (EN 45 000 series), by submitting an accreditation certificate or other documentary evidence, are presumed to conform to the requirements of the directives. Member States having notified bodies unable to prove their conformity with the harmonized standards (EN 45 000 series) may be requested to provide the Commission with the appropriate supporting documents on the basis of which notification was carried out;
2 y% C0 E0 j; ?  u(n) a list of notified bodies must be published by the Commission in the Official Journal of the European Communities and constantly updated. # X# z; g$ d* W  f
B. The principal guidelines for the affixing and use of the CE marking are the following:
+ Q) |6 l5 Z2 w) O7 Q2 o7 v. F2 D1 T(a) The CE marking symbolizes conformity to all the obligations incumbent on manufacturers for the product by virtue of the Community directives providing for its affixing.
" Y) e; t3 H& _) LThus, such conformity is not limited to the essential requirements relating to safety, public health, consumer protection, etc., as certain directives may impose specific obligations not necessarily forming part of the essential requirements. 4 ?/ O8 M# {' b( f2 }! x3 u; e
(b) The CE marking affixed to industrial products symbolizes the fact that the natural or legal person having affixed or been responsible for the affixing of the said marking has verified that the product conforms to all the Community total harmonization provisions which apply to it and has been the subject of the appropriate conformity evaluation procedures.
: ~9 s8 v: o8 s0 d(c) Where the industrial products are subject to other directives concerning other aspects and which also provide for the affixing of the CE marking, the latter must indicate that the products are also presumed to conform to the provisions of those other directives. 7 C1 R5 H% Z* u6 O
However, where one or more of these directives allow the manufacturer, during a transitional period, to choose which arrangements to apply, the CE marking indicates conformity to the provisions only of those directives applied by the manufacturer. In this case, particulars of the directives applied, as published in the Official Journal of the European Communities, must be given in the documents, notices or instructions accompanying the products or, where appropriate, on the data plate.
4 x, d, D- x2 |4 b4 _(d) 1. The CE conformity marking must consist of the initials 'CE' taking the following form: % N1 T$ a& I1 S# W
If the CE marking is reduced or enlarged the proportions given in the above graduated drawing must be respected. / B" Q- ]  Y& |( R
2. Where the directive concerned does not impose specific dimensions, the CE marking must have a height of at least 5 mm.
" X. P/ R0 f7 n3 X3. The CE marking must be affixed to the product or to its data plate. However, where this is not possible or not warranted on account of the nature of the product, it must be affixed to the packaging, if any, and to the accompanying documents, where the directive concerned provides for such documents. 7 x, _' h  r8 F8 K, I9 w. j
4. The CE marking must be affixed visibly, legibly and indelibly.
8 @& J+ C. B/ R! J(e) Any industrial product covered by the technical harmonization directives based on the principles of the global approach must bear the CE marking, save where the specific directives provide otherwise; such exceptions constitute derogations not from the marking requirement but from the administrative procedures for conformity evaluation, which may in certain cases be considered too cumbersome. Appropriate grounds must accordingly be given for any exception to or derogation from the marking requirement.
# J! I; b  R2 U& ?* c* x7 `7 fThe CE marking is the only marking which certifies that the industrial products conform to the directives based on the principles of the global approach. . A9 z& p2 Q# Y- \/ [. _, y
Member States must refrain from introducing into their national regulations any reference to a conformity marking other than the CE marking in connection with conformity to all the provisions contained in the directives on CE marking. # @- `( r5 c: W8 o" d- P
(f) The CE marking must be affixed at the end of the production control phase.
/ k7 a, m% `) Q. [( j(g) The CE conformity marking must be followed by the identification number of the notified body within the meaning of paragraph I.A where the said body is involved in the production control phase within the meaning of this Decision. # z7 _- _2 p  P0 o; v1 `
Such identification numbers must be assigned by the Commission as part of the body notification procedure. The Commission must publish lists of the notified bodies in the Official Journal of the European Communities; such lists must be updated regularly.   `3 k# U8 I. {% w5 x. c
A notified body must be assigned the same number when it is notified under several directives. The Commission must ensure that each notified body receives a single identification number, however many directives it is notified under.
5 I/ L$ \0 w# E* N  T(h) It is necessary to lay down provisions concerning the use of certain products. In this case, the CE marking and the identification number of the notified body may be followed by a pictogram or any other mark indicating, for example, the category of use.
( a% i: P4 i1 r* K( {8 `. C- H(i) The affixing for any other marking liable to deceive third parties as to the meaning and form of the CE marking must be prohibited. 5 K7 z+ j" Y. v, q& f
(j) A product may bear different marks, for example marks indicating conformity to national or European standards or with traditional optional directives, provided such marks are not liable to cause confusion with the CE marking.   C! D+ B: ^5 @9 S; ^; V) j6 Y
Such marks may therefore only be affixed to the product, its packaging or the documentation accompanying the product on condition that the legibility and visibility of the CE marking are not thereby reduced. : |  o, x. y+ O' Z3 I! p; T
(k) The CE marking must be affixed by the manufacturer or his agent established within the Community. In exceptional, duly warranted cases, the specific directives may provide that the CE marking can be affixed by the person responsible for placing the product on the Community market.
1 J, r9 t8 K* y. z  OThe identification number of the notified body must be affixed under its responsibility either by the body itself or by the manufacturer or his agent established within the Community. 6 C% e6 q2 B, C7 v
(l) Member States must take all provisions of national law necessary to exclude any possibility of confusion and to prevent abuse of the CE marking. * z, u, z# j# H( x( }! N; A+ i+ \
Without prejudice to the provisions in the directive concerned relating to the application of the safeguard clause, where a Member State establishes that the CE marking has been affixed unduly, the manufacturer, his agent or, exceptionally, where the specific directives so provide, the person responsible for placing the product in question on the Community market is obliged to make the product comply and to end the infringement under conditions imposed by the Member State. Where non-compliance continues, the Member State must take all appropriate measures to restrict or prohibit the placing on the market of the product in question or to ensure that it is withdrawn from the market in accordance with the procedures laid down in the safeguard clauses.

% U* a" Z$ S7 {8 x# HSpecific directives may allow the CE marking to be affixed to the packaging or the accompanying documentation, instead of to the product itself. % J' q( I' R: F. u# y& y
The declaration of conformity or the certificate of conformity (whichever of the two applies in the directive concerned) must cover either individual or several products and shall either accompany the product(s) covered or be kept by the manufacturer. The appropriate solution for the directive concerned will be specified.
2 b5 H; z7 s  I; u; j" ?0 v0 lReferences to Articles refer to the standard paragraphs of Annex II.B to the Council resolution of 7 May 1985 (OJ No C 136, 4. 6. 1985, p. 1), which have become standard Articles in the 'new approach' directives. % h' U- Z- d0 |/ f3 b" ?
The development of computerized communication of certificates and other documents issued by notified bodies is envisaged within INSIS. : Q: m1 V5 S( P
Specific directives may use modules A, C and H with additional provisions containing supplementary requirements which figure in the boxes in the modules.
4 t/ A/ c; ~+ f6 ?- ], v8 W/ kModule C is designed to be used in combination with module B (EC type-examination). Modules D, E and F will also normally be used in combination with module B; however, in special cases (for example, when dealing with certain products of very simple design and construction) they may be used on their own.
1 y, W7 |4 l" M! M& M& IModule A (internal production control), ~" K% ^. w: x! J8 U( U
1. This module describes the procedure whereby the manufacturer or his authorized representative established within the Community, who carries out the obligations laid down in point 2, ensures and declares that the products concerned satisfy the requirements of the directive that apply to them. The manufacturer or his authorized manufacturer established within the Community must affix the CE marking to each product and draw up a written declaration of conformity. # [8 {- l/ G* S
2. The manufacturer must establish the technical documentation described in paragraph 3 and he or his authorized representative established with the Community must keep it for a period ending at least 10 years (2)() after the last product has been manufactured at the disposal of the relevant national authorities for inspection purposes. 3 F5 l* l& V* M# t9 e
Where neither the manufacturer nor his authorized representative is established within the Community, the obligation to keep the technical documentation available is the responsibility of the person who places the product on the Community market. ) u; y0 l7 t* ^1 c( R  n
3. Technical documentation must enable the conformity of the product with the requirements of the directive to be assessed. It must, as far as relevant for such assessment, cover the design, manufacture and operation of the product (3)().
1 |' k5 g$ f9 d4. The manufacturer or his authorized representative must keep a copy of the declaration of conformity with the technical documentation. ' O+ W4 N) c5 u. @
5. The manufacturer must take all measures necessary in order that the manufacturing process ensures compliance of the manufactured products with the technical documentation referred to in point 2 and with the requirements of the directive that apply to them. 2 d( G1 R4 `) Y  @1 a
Module Aa- W9 s& l+ s/ ]; H) F
This module consists of module A, plus the following supplementary requirements: 1 p2 i: h) A+ L9 r
For each product manufactured one or more tests on one or more specific aspects of the product must be carried out by the manufacturer or on his behalf (4)(). The tests are carried out on the responsibility of a notified body chosen by the manufacturer.
/ @4 B, t+ N4 N0 \" @/ H7 aOn the responsibility of the notified body, the manufacturer must affix the former's identification number during the manufacturing process.

1 Z! t% g% ~7 x1 }4 {( l1 rA notified body chosen by the manufacturer must carry out or have carried out product checks at random intervals. An adequate sample of the final products, taken on site by the notified body, must be examined and appropriate tests as set out in the relevant standard(s) referred to in Article 5, or equivalent tests, must be carried out to check the conformity of the product with the relevant requirements of the directive.
( Q5 x: M8 C0 G+ v. f' U9 JIn those cases where one or more of the products checked do not conform the notified body must take appropriate measures.

(Relevant aspects must be specified here such as for example the statistical method to be applied, the sampling plan with its operational characteristics, etc.)
& O: [9 d+ l# F6 v% ~On the responsibility of the notified body, the manufacturer must affix the former's identification number during the manufacturing process. * H9 w6 }  i# g8 ?0 i# U
Module B (EC type-examination)
1 k: G1 V! {2 g1 N6 ^9 m. o1. This module describes that part of the procedure by which a notified body ascertains and attests that a specimen, representative of the production envisaged, meets the provisions of the directive that apply to it. # y7 ~2 ?9 V' W/ E& O$ P8 P, D
2. The application for the EC type-examination must be lodged by the manufacturer or his authorized representative established within the Community with a notified body of his choice. ) M6 b; ?  p5 J- J
The application must include: 4 y! \, R1 I6 ~1 X4 P, M& h
- the name and address of the manufacturer and, if the application is lodged by the authorized representative, his name and address in addition,
( I: B1 l8 M- b2 ?' p2 z- a written declaration that the same application has not been lodged with any other notified body,
! X/ c: z/ R+ N  _* a. C- the technical documentation, as described in point 3. * _5 ^4 X) t# ~) q7 e  f5 t% y
The applicant must place at the disposal of the notified body a specimen, repesentative of the production envisaged and hereinafter called 'type' (5)(). The notified body may request further specimens if needed for carrying out the test programme.
2 i( n) S8 s  C. _; F( Z% M3. The technical documentation must enable the conformity of the product with the requirements of the directive to be assessed. It must, as far as relevant for such assessment, cover the design, manufacture and operation of the product (6)(). 9 ?$ z3 t9 C+ ?7 h4 N8 Q) l
4. The notified body must: 4 y8 O  E. g0 m1 ~. w
4.1. examine the technical documentation, verify that the type has been manufactured in conformity with the technical documentation and identify the elements which have been designed in accordance with the relevant provisions of the standards referred to in Article 5, as well as the components which have been designed without applying the relevant provisions of those standards;
- ?+ \( ~& W% W4 ?# E- j4.2. perform or have performed the appropriate examinations and necessary tests to check whether, where the standards referred to in Article 5 have not been applied, the solutions adopted by the manufacturer meet the essential requirements of the directive; 3 |0 `: C# w3 F
4.3. perform or have performed the appropriate examinations and necessary tests to check whether, where the manufacturer has chosen to apply the relevant standards, these have actually been applied;   J, A# p& n4 L  u# H/ o9 R0 ?

4.3. The notified body must periodically (27)() carry out audits to make sure that the manufacturer maintains and applies the quality system and shall provide an audit report to the manufacturer.   G3 X" ^7 ]( I! R, V" I3 E* W
4.4. Additionally the notified body may pay unexpected visits to the manufacturer. At the time of such visits, the notified body may carry out tests or have them carried out in order to check the proper functioning of the quality system where necessary; it must provide the manufacturer with a visit report and, if a test has been caried out, with a test report.
7 j9 L- s" d9 R5. The manufacturer must, for a period ending at least 10 years (28)() after the last product has been manufactured, keep at the disposal of the national authorities:

6. Each notified body must forward to the other notified bodies the relevant information concerning the quality system approvals issued and withdrawn (29)(). . ~( \0 p+ k+ ]& o& F
Possible supplementary requirements:

. a4 R: i9 R& t* x1. The manufacturer must lodge an application for examination of the design with a single notified body.
. o) K; ]6 g8 u6 K5 `2. The application must enable the design, manufacture and operation of the product to be understood, and shall enable conformity with the requirements of the directive to be assessed. * b% O5 }+ x  ?5 o+ L
It must include:

- the necessary supporting evidence for their adequacy, in particular where the standards referred to in Article 5 have not been applied in full. This supporting evidence must include the results of tests carried out by the appropriate laboratory of the manufacturer or on his behalf. 7 y9 l/ `+ T* m7 h/ X) F0 X6 `) v# r
3. The notified body must examine the application and where the design meets the provisions of the directive that apply to it must issue an EC design examination certificate to the applicant. The certificate shall contain the conclusions of the examination, conditions for its validity, the necessary data for identification of the approved design and, if relevant, a description of the product's functioning.
( q2 a/ O' S: s5 K9 z, ~4. The applicant must keep the notified body that has issued the EC design examination certificate informed of any modification to the approved design. Modifications to the approved design must receive additional approval from the notified body that issued the EC design examination certificate where such changes may affect the conformity with the essential requirements of the directive or the prescribed conditions for use of the product. This additional approval is given in the form of an addition to the original EC design examination certificate. * A; s3 f7 V3 t4 K6 Z: E! K
5. The notified bodies must forward to the other notified bodies the relevant information concerning: % V- d# n- ?9 z* V) f
- the EC design examination certificates and additions issued, ( J0 ^2 x' J0 v% J
- the EC design approvals and additional approvals withdrawn (30)().

V2 D' g(1)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.(2)() The specific directives may alter this period.(3)() The content of the technical documentation shall be laid down directive by directive in accordance with the products concerned. For example, the documentation must contain so far as relevant for assessment: - a general description of the product, - conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc., - descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of said drawings and schemes and the operation of the product, - a list of the standards referred to in Article 5, applied in full or in part, and descriptions of the solutions adopted to meet the essential requirements of the directive where the standards referred to in Article 5 have not been applied, - results of design calculations made, examinations carried out, etc., - test reports.(4)() If this option is adopted in a specific directive, the products concerned and the tests to be carried out must be specified.(5)() A type may cover several versions of the product provided that the differences between the versions do not affect the level of safety and the other requirements concerning the performance of the product.(6)() The content of the technical documentation must be laid down directive by directive in accordance with the products concerned. For example, the documentation must contain as far as is relevant for assessment: - a general type-description, - conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc., - descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of said drawings and schemes and the operation of the product, - a list of the standards referred to in Article 5, applied in full or in part, and descriptions of the solutions adopted to meet the essential requirements of the directive where the standards referred to in Article 5 have not been applied, - results of design calculations made, examinations carried out, etc., - test reports.(7)() The specific directives may provide for the certificate to have a period of validity.(8)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.(9)() The specific directives may alter this period.(10)() If this option is adopted in a specific directive, the products concerned and the tests to be carried out must be specified.(11)() The specific directives may alter this period.(12)() Where this module is used without module B: - points 2 and 3 of module A must be added between points 1 and 2 in order to incorporate the need for technical documentation, - the words in square brackets must be deleted.(13)() This harmonized standard will be EN 29 002, supplemented, if necessary, to take into account the specific nature of the products for which it is implemented.(14)() In the specific directives, the frequency may be specified.(15)() The specific directives may alter this period.(16)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.(17)() When this module is used without module B: - points 2 and 3 of module A must be added between points 1 and 2 in order to incorporate the need for technical documentation, - the words in square brackets must be deleted.(18)() This harmonized standard will be EN 29 003, supplemented if necessary to allow for the specific features of the products for which it is implemented.(19)() The intervals between audits may be specified in the specific directives.(20)() The specific directives may alter this period.(21)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.(22)() Where this module is used without module B: - it must be supplemented by points 2 and 3 of module A (between points 1 and 2), so as to introduce the need for technical documentation, - the next in square brackets must be deleted.(23)() The manufacturer's discretion may be limited in the specific directives.(24)() The specific directives may alter this period.(25)() The content of the technical documentation shall be laid down directive by directive in accordance with the products concerned. As an example, the documentation shall contain so far as relevant for assessment: - a general description of the product, - conceptual design and manufacturing drawings and schemes of components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc., - descriptions and explanations necessary for the understanding of said drawings and schemes and the operation of the product, - a list of the standards referred to in Article 5, applied in full or in part, and descriptions of the solutions adopted to meet the essential requirements of the directive where the standards referred to in Article 5 have not been applied, - results of design calculations made, examinations carried out, etc., - test reports.(26)() This harmonized standard shall be EN 29 001, completed if necessary to take into consideration the specificity of the products for which it is implemented.(27)() In the specific directives, the frequency may be specified.(28)() The specific directives may alter this period.(29)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.(30)() The specific directives may provide for different arrangements.
