In sub-clause 3.5.1 and 11.2 of IEC 60335-1:2001, it is mentioned that hand held appliances, such as a hair curler, are appliances held in the hand during normal use.

In IEC 60335-2-23:2003, there is no modification done to align to IEC 60335-1:2001. As a result, no floor temperatures have to be measured.
