1.1 These requirements cover household cooking equipment that is floor or cabinet supported,4 L+ G, t* x% {/ J
wall-mounted, counter mounted, or combinations thereof, rated 600 V or less, for installation in9 I* h6 r/ y2 Y) w* I4 Z
accordance with the National Electrical Code.# ?6 D3 o8 t# H5 O" R8 a
1.2 These requirements also cover ventilating hoods that are provided as an integral part of the cooking/ G) Y5 Z- G% K- o1 E
equipment, or that are separately supported on the building structure but arranged for factory-provided

1.3 These requirements do not cover commercial cooking appliances.& i' k+ r, h( S* _8 a
1.4 These requirements do not cover special types of household cooking appliances. However, if such- a* \4 k( g# W: p' [5 o* }
appliances are used as a part of a range, oven, surface assembly, or combination thereof, they will be
/ O3 c) O% f7 q) e! x, Djudged on the basis of compliance with the requirements in this standard, insofar as they apply, and

1.5 For the purpose of these requirements, cooking equipment includes ranges, ovens, surface
E, P5 x) a) Z8 Yassemblies, or combinations thereof. A range is considered to be a combination of a surface assembly9 Y/ b8 e+ J. M- l; S% Z& b
with one or more ovens. Wall-mounted cooking equipment is considered to be those appliances intended6 ]/ @1 f3 e# t2 p9 G* C. S
for mounting in or on a wall or other vertical surface of a building or cabinet. Counter-mounted cooking% R' C5 a; z5 P
equipment is considered to be those appliances intended for mounting in or on a counter or other

1.6 In the following text, a requirement that applies only to one, two, or three of the classes of equipment2 n' u) B5 `4 M& o" j0 J. b
coming within its scope – ventilating hoods, ranges, wall-mounted ovens, counter-mounted cooking units,
% |1 e0 p: ^( R* ^6 Dor combinations thereof – are so identified. In the absence of such specific reference, or if the term5 _* z3 m1 e5 d S! @! |+ b# v+ H
appliance is employed, it is to be understood that the requirement applies to all of these classes of7 W: n6 v- O# T; @

1.7 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different
. i; V7 S: b1 \% a0 T gfrom those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock
