Overview
' x2 Z& P0 }( vThis program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are
# V$ j0 Q( U8 O" J6 f, n, jassembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory/ E- }, s, i* M+ C. n0 E5 z
installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They" P7 K- L4 [7 _3 P
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
0 H: I" {) [, u- i1 i6 Z: uelectrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,# s l/ L3 V! ~4 j$ ]
strain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,
5 U3 |# L5 z* H$ Etraceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is! Y# i9 q8 I) l$ Y4 I. F7 m& r
not possible at an end-product factory location. This program can7 l$ B8 t4 p% P0 h: o
be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally! T) U4 v' Q; {6 I, a: d
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally
2 H5 U8 E4 E2 V! X3 ddesigned for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram* e/ o1 b. b* z0 x
or carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for
- J4 n: X0 o) {6 A! j1 kfield installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power
3 }% t1 ]6 T3 ssupply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as
/ Y# _: p( `# O+ Wa motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
% [9 U" t* @) s& Y7 oMethod of traceability
- ^; E( \" {* {8 b1 ]An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
) a; Y% }/ N& Ba harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product2 x4 ?2 ]6 a5 F0 V- t a! G
manufacturer that details construction elements and components; K5 H2 P% O# P% Z& W) e
to be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer
" s* B' K* u9 w+ E. P6 y! gwill assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications! @+ u: O( n1 F4 \# w8 C$ d' x* H
and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these& Z" p3 P8 T1 X( V) i
specifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
' h& k) Y6 L, D& ?8 N# \* _these construction elements is further determined at an end-product. W! e) S2 v* x: u
manufacturing location and involves verifying that these features3 R* J. H" f2 t O. b& p
comply with an end-product Follow-Up Services procedure.% ]; _9 g9 H4 {3 w
The UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit
9 ~* b) R3 A) }container in which a product is packaged is the only method used0 ?- M/ e2 Q, P$ \
to identify wiring harnesses manufactured under the UL Recognition: m; w5 }3 }; [
and Follow-Up Service programs. |
