This program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are
8 C8 N& o. X! T9 ~ Bassembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory
! y; g, ?. V0 w+ c ], Einstalled components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They. B9 _+ V4 F, c* G# L
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
# C p. G- ^# m. j6 C8 welectrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
0 Q; Q5 z4 Y$ }4 z! [' S# O6 Estrain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,
* k; X* K, M& r, H/ itraceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is: H9 }6 x. z/ c$ S8 W
not possible at an end-product factory location. This program can
! h* R G6 M3 c. {be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally& s r4 M t0 e& j8 z- ]) _' q, M$ u; V
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally$ N- Q3 i2 O" E
designed for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram
1 V4 N* o) i/ L2 h! Lor carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for, T7 E8 B7 G9 \# y; _
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power/ m. T, n7 Y/ z& k
supply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as
& ~' e4 S6 K3 g% q ta motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.
% H1 d) p4 e% O3 Q2 ZMethod of traceability
6 M0 D2 ^' A4 ~' B5 Z& l E& xAn off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
, K" u$ ]5 N8 M% P2 |a harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product
; ]0 [6 G0 I3 \* E: Tmanufacturer that details construction elements and components* Z+ n8 y; q' l, Y9 Q: F& V" L4 e& `& x
to be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer9 ]5 K' ~/ O7 C" P& I
will assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications
$ p D: ~; q1 m9 |1 eand, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these
" h8 N2 f! c6 n+ q6 o! Uspecifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
6 z) S) c$ |# O7 T8 M" Ithese construction elements is further determined at an end-product
( q* ]6 v6 g8 F8 bmanufacturing location and involves verifying that these features
9 ~0 O- }, _( K1 n$ Y7 H$ ]" Xcomply with an end-product Follow-Up Services procedure.! B9 A* i x! S6 A% n# z7 B5 W
The UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit* [1 V* u, w) ^& `4 S
container in which a product is packaged is the only method used
8 v0 D8 R( l; e) g1 Ito identify wiring harnesses manufactured under the UL Recognition
- Y% v T+ `- Z, Sand Follow-Up Service programs. |
