+ K. j0 |5 e* {% ^1 Y/ |1 erequirements of the standard, and for practical reasons also based on 89/1011/CD, which
+ \' m- R1 e- v- Qis not in all respects identical with the requirements of the standard.

In addition to clause 4.1 of the standard and due to various qualities of steel balls for rolling1 c% M$ e1 R6 I, a& p
bearings, the tolerance for the steel ball diameter shall not exceed ±1% to ensure  g) F2 P% X7 k5 p
comparable results.% \+ q# T" ?, Z! }2 ]
In addition to clause 4.2 of the standard, the specimen support shall be a metal block of4 ^8 y9 J7 p( t" p$ t0 |
steel, with a diameter  50 mm and a height of  100 mm or equivalent volume and mass.

In addition to 7.1 of the standard conduct the test in air, in a heating cabinet being capable to* u( P, _- l9 }- Y
return within 5 min and without any temperature overshoot exceeding +5°C to the7 ~* V8 p  Q7 H; A' Q
previously adjusted and required air temperature within a tolerance of +/- 2°C .5 J& |  F  X7 Z1 P
Measure the air temperature as close as possible to the test specimen.* h- y$ @/ i- c. o) N2 y
Before introducing the test specimen, bring the cabinet, the test apparatus and the test+ M' i, p! ?4 X# J0 m" ^- g
specimen support to the required temperature and maintain the required test temperature for
% W* ]# T, ?1 D, x24 h or until equilibrium conditions are reached, whichever occurs sooner.
% k4 ]/ s# b" p7 X% U1 ZWhen thermal equilibrium conditions are reached, place the test specimen on the approximate+ A6 k) [; H* A  w
centre of the test specimen support so that its upper surface is horizontal. Gently lower the; c. @- l, z; b% I" v$ j
pressure ball on to the approximate centre of the test specimen. Ensure that no conditions exist
1 k: J1 S9 _6 \) O9 H3 C: a  i* W3 R2 Ethat will cause the pressure ball to move other than in a downward direction during the test.
& e4 M, F$ o4 O5 sAfter the ball pressure apparatus has been applied for 60 +2/-0 minutes, remove it and within 10  ~3 k7 e0 _" Z8 h7 y$ B
s immerse the test specimen in ambient temperature water for 6 min ±2 min.7 f2 j4 }  T/ W
Within 3 minutes of removal from the water, measure the diameter of the indentation caused by' f, }; R2 f9 d1 `  G) }) s
the pressure ball to one decimal place.: Y8 n6 c' w$ Q, j( M+ j% E* N" V
Deviant from 7.2 of the standard, but in accordance with 89/1011/CD, the diameter “d” of
8 v* M' s7 K7 O" gthe indentation is to be measured as close as possible to the diameter of the “solid edge”4 i8 m" g3 d% X4 r% k* S1 `* Y
of the indentation according to both a) figure 2a shown below and b) picture examples
4 `6 b' I! Y$ p" cgiven in Annex A. The diameter of the solid edge of the indentation (dimension d ) shall
  D2 X9 i& c. h, u& F2 Eexclude any material deformation as shown in figure 2c below.
