centers and similar power distribution systems that were intended for installation in computer

; l) B |$ Z0 v; Y/ ^: Z# wintegral to large mainframe computers, where a single integral distribution transformers would
; ~: ]( _" S$ `% {) c! psupply power to several mainframe bays. However, as computer rooms and computers became
) ?7 H% }. Z% Q9 M% Z3 Ymore sophisticated, these power distribution systems were designed into their own cabinets.

9 r& F8 e! ]9 p% U. Dyears ago UL established a product category, QPQY, Power Distribution Centers for
' |0 ]3 G1 w) \. N% ~% t' e8 DCommunications Equipment, specifically for covering the equipment associated with the primary
' e# D% t2 n# Fand secondary distribution of the centralized d.c. This category requires compliance with IEC/UL+ x' `1 f5 _; v7 K2 U( f4 I: X
60950 as its base set of requirements, but supplements IEC/UL 60950 with Subject 1801.
! }; D* J( T8 E0 F6 MSubject 1801 is required because IEC/UL 60950 does NOT include all the needed requirements
! f, w _/ ?8 [' p" T% z3 ito address the safety of constructions such as busbars that distribute very large power levels.1 T/ ~4 z2 F/ g0 l

Charger/Rectifiers, which are typically connected to a.c. mains and have characteristics similar

Smaller power strips and power distribution units used exclusively with ITE, which are often% A1 N$ u" S# ]3 N
similar to relocatable power taps, but which often have much higher input ratings and may have z" x& x" Y4 F
both NEMA and non-NEMA power outlets, have traditionally been certified under NWGQ/2 and' Z" F. U! s; [) Z( o
may continue to do so since the requirements in IEC/UL 60950-1 are considered adequate for# N/ [6 G( q, Q* L% p7 ]/ n- L
certifying these constructions.
