Question: Clause 26 of the standard lists several requirements regarding creepage" Q' E y9 i) `, U3 t, g
distances, clearances and distances through insulation. In particular, paragraph 45 z* Q; g: m/ e
of subclause 26.2 states: “The reduced values shown in Table 13, C.1 and D.15 g8 j) U6 F5 v8 V$ O
can be used when separation is made by the use of impregnation, potting, or by# ]. i: N# t* G* r7 w
the use of adhesive bonding tape covering the windings, provided that the tests7 P0 V: a0 Q; w" J7 h3 a' v# b
of 4.1.1.2.1 of IEC 60664-1 are fulfilled”. To check whether the parts are3 ^: j0 L: A7 ~; X: S# P
adequately potted, impregnated or cemented together, the tests according to) K' W" k5 x; P, L2 z1 Z+ k
procedure A) or B) are conducted. If a transformer is impregnated or potted on
& T) @% \, O( k3 {: ^' Jthe outside only, and the impregnation material has not penetrated inside it, e.g.- c: E0 j0 O: c/ Z) V
between primary and secondary winding or between winding and core, can the
0 O- @& t8 v1 Y; y! J; breduced values of Table 13, C.1, D.1 be taken into account?7 \4 |. @) I( J
Decision: Yes, According to the IEC 61558-1, it is not required that the impregnation or2 x- g7 P0 b" E3 a* T
potting material must penetrate into all parts of the transformer. The criteria3 i% m! I7 g M1 a3 `/ F
for acceptance is the tests described in clause 26. The second edition of IEC
' [8 ]+ k! W3 C i0 L7 ], }61558-1 is clear in this respect.+ z5 V" T/ B! e2 w% X5 j0 l
