Overview

assembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory( |' I# P. m4 `9 ]* }" V! J) B3 B. l) k
installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They8 h4 A8 V9 D% E1 E- S( m# {
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
: o& I; v1 ?7 belectrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,% z+ X Z# c$ k) @( E
strain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,+ p% B1 k$ A L, m; a' l
traceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is
& F y* A: _+ ~4 ^& fnot possible at an end-product factory location. This program can
9 S) x: n$ e& S" Z( y4 \be used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally9 @" j" `8 a1 F$ p1 G
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally5 ^4 \$ a0 N, `( p! i# v9 P
designed for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram6 B1 D6 e* G% C5 p/ g d$ `( i; [
or carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for) Q# t; l0 J6 _; F, r
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power' d, Q& n# s: a# O; P0 C4 }
supply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as& B% m2 z8 G( j/ U, p4 U( G$ g' Y5 e
a motor is not eligible for coverage under this program.

An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with
7 V8 i. _' d% W$ R0 ?a harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product: p4 X8 b* Z7 \
manufacturer that details construction elements and components
5 M1 x3 q8 v9 L# uto be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer& d. V! |7 K* Y+ u7 d. m
will assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications3 C7 `+ |/ K1 U
and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these6 c7 P9 N8 u, I7 c9 e% i5 q
specifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for
& C. r; [$ J) Z8 @: b' I/ @/ y9 A9 Jthese construction elements is further determined at an end-product
* {3 P5 I$ V/ d0 A6 vmanufacturing location and involves verifying that these features! m2 K2 B8 i ` X f0 t% @

The UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit" ^" R- F- q, |( t& v
container in which a product is packaged is the only method used- k) r( ]0 c8 b
to identify wiring harnesses manufactured under the UL Recognition
