我国的家具的安全标准近两年才开始制定和实施。如GB 28007-2011  儿童家具通用技术条件，其中涉及了安全要求，2011年10月31日发布，2012年8月1日方实施；GB 28478-2012 户外休闲家具安全性能要求　桌椅类产品，2012年6月29日发布，2013年5月1日实施。家具安全主要涉及：防止锐边、楞角、突出物的割伤、刺伤、撞伤等，防止孔及间隙的挤伤，折叠机构的挤压、剪切，有害物质的限值，阻燃；以及力学上的稳定性、牢固性；具有封闭空间的家具还要防止空间不能意外将人（小孩）关入，产生窒息；儿童家具更要有一些针对儿童安全的预防保护性限制措施，如玻璃材料的限制使用、绳带的限制、家具的意外移动，家具上可移动体的滑脱……等等。

家具生产企业和消费者对此应有所了解，特别是出口企业，应当了解输出目地国有关的标准和法律。附图的折叠椅是欧盟RAPEX（The Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products 非食品类产品快速预警系统）36-2012周每周通报上的一个通报产品。通报国家荷兰。通报原因：该产品有伤害危险。该产品在打开位置时没有自动锁定机构，所以使用者在试图抬着坐位来搬动椅子时，手指可能会陷入椅子的金属链中并被压伤 。产品不符合有关EN 581-1标准，被迫从市场撤出。
