Annex R of 60947-1, subclause R.2.2, gives instructions for the geometrical zones,
where the metal foil shall be applied. The examples in Figure R.3 have often been a
cause for discussions between test laboratory and customer as to which surfaces
shall be covered and whether or not the foil may come in contact with hazardous-liveparts
( {. P/ m( G/ j8 t, [, I(e.g. terminals and connected conductors) located in these zones.
7 h; E2 `/ B4 m% dThe text of R.2.2 clearly states that all surfaces within the defined safety zones shall
2 D+ Q7 s' E( q, L$ L9 ]; _$ Hbe covered by the metal foil regardless of the orientation, unless the manufacturer
9 T( _; u, W3 E) ~/ cprovides specification for mounting or the use of additional enclosures preventing
access to these surfaces.

" X- I# c( c9 i' \& ?% F& Pindicate that this requirement shall be applied to holes, where the test finger cannot
penetrate (see note to figure R.3). This might be interpreted to the effect that the foil
  [' u6 C" O1 i: w$ Rshall be adapted to outlines of the device forming cavities with diameters larger than
7 n* D+ p" r: K. J; E12.5 mm, according to the shape of the test finger.
