Canada proposes new law to prohibit the use of Bisphenol A (BPA)中文版本
Canada’s Ministry of the Environment has proposed a law to prohibit the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in specified products. It is also known as the Bisphenol A (BPA) Control Act. The BPA act was first read on 6 Feb 2009 in Canada’s House of Commons and shall come into force within six months of enactment.
The Bisphenol A (BPA) Control Act of Canada prohibits the use of BPA in the following specified products:
• Food and drink packaging, including food cans, beverage cans, bottle tops and plastic containers for beverages, including bottled water
• Products designed to feed infants, including feeding bottles, sippy cups and other similar products
• Reusable water bottles sold for hiking and other recreational outdoor uses and reusable food containers
• Dental polymers, including dental sealants • Water supply pipes
What is Bisphenol A?
Canada is the first country in the world to announce a proposed ban on the use of BPA in specified products.
BPA is a chemical that is typically found in polycarbonate (PC) plastic and
epoxy, and is also used as a polymerization inhibitor in polyvinyl chloride
(PVC). It is commonly used in PVC baby bottles, tableware, and food ware.
The addition of BPA allows plastics to withstand higher temperatures.

加拿大环境部立法禁止在特定产品使用双酚A (Bisphenol A - BPA)，此法例亦稱為双酚A(BPA) 控制法。
此法例于2009年2月6日在加拿大下议院作首读，预料双酚A(BPA)控制法会于正式颁布后6个月内生
效。加拿大是首个国家宣布于特定产品中禁止使用双酚A的。
