During the glow wire test (according to the temperature settings required by the standard), the& K9 ~/ A+ e/ ]/ I/ p% M
following phenomena can occur:$ a7 Z  g8 m" H" J1 E8 E$ v
1. If a brightly shining flame is observed directly at the test specimen (see picture 1), this is a5 J+ S4 \) w7 y+ i$ }% F( i
clear indication of an ignition. Some materials show a colourless transparent flame3 U) r, N: Y7 Q
instead of a bright shiny flame. This is considered to be ignition of the test specimen, if the
1 C3 F" D/ m9 B0 i% {+ x0 @+ ?1 {maximum flaming time allowed by the standard is exceeded.* F. B8 u9 o6 k3 i- s; h) ?- n3 G8 `
2. Sometimes, a circular corona can be observed around the tip of the glow wire, see picture( V8 {8 G" n) S. V- _2 J9 K7 G
2. This corona consists of ionized gas, predominantly blue in colour and is located in the
; g; {. H; a/ m1 c0 ~immediate vicinity of the glow wire. This phenomenon is not considered to be ignition of" T4 F5 l4 g; f7 p. `$ @! K
the test specimen, as long as it does not lead to an ignition of the test specimen according
% n  V7 A( F. |0 R  Z$ kto point 1.
* c* D# ]; w: j9 F4 C$ N5 E/ I3 y3. Furthermore, ionized gasses can sometimes be noticed along the glow wire (see picture! z  }4 m% v7 O; \+ t7 f/ F9 R
3). This effect is also not considered to be ignition of the test specimen, as long as it does0 `# p3 ]4 A) P! K5 o
not lead to an ignition of the test specimen according to point 1.
