For a three pole switch normally rated for 400 V, the rated residual making and breaking2 {, [% u9 t- n# Y1 u# Z; H
capacity has to be tested at 400 V.
' s2 a2 f' U. WFor a three pole switch with four current paths and for a four pole switch normally rated for
5 V- q* {$ {4 s( ~  ^400 V, the rated residual making and breaking capacity has to be tested at 230 V.- I3 W4 K6 h( |' |: @/ D9 L# \7 t  J
Due to the fact that the purpose of this test is not to cover the special fault conditions in IT-systems,
8 K+ Q! K5 q: a3 K/ J! S$ Q) Gthe test voltage for this verification of the rated residual making and breaking capacity should be
" j4 [# f7 W! j$ ]230 V, independent of the number of poles, and the relevant figures should be corrected.1 h' J' z, v1 U$ \$ r
Decision taken at the SC23E WG2 meeting in Nice, October 2001:

SC23E_WG2_010 request from Austria to update 61008 clause 9.11.2.36 }, {; p, K" x# `6 B0 z
The proposal made by Mr Bachl was considered justified and accepted. During the meeting
3 k  y9 {0 _6 l' H8 F; Q0 DWG2 decided that laboratories and certification bodies should be informed about this& {; t* X5 k  Y3 }* r  D% V) `
important decision.

Decision to be forwarded to CTL:* E. h9 @( k7 ~7 j
IEC SC23E WG2 decided to correct the inconsistent test requirement in IEC 61008-1 (1996-12), subclause4 q' e# W0 ^$ v; G+ H! x
9.11.2.3 and in IEC 61009-1 (1996-12), subclause 9.12.13 - Verification of the rated residual8 F' L& I8 V7 }) {3 s* n: L: z
making and breaking capacity IDm.
: o2 _* y' s  d  X1 a5 CThe test voltage for this verification of the rated residual making and breaking capacity should be the: I, U( z% N5 ?; Y# v  C7 H& b
line to neutral voltage, independent of the number of poles of the RCCB or RCBO. This correction will1 @/ t# h6 h  a+ V, w
be included in the next amendment or revision of IEC 61008-1 and IEC 61009-1.
/ N3 {1 s4 l2 i* oThe revised test circuit (fig. 7) proposed for the standard is attached.
