accepted as Operational or Basic insulation when the capacitors are used in circuits compatible% `9 m; Z* D; t5 [' y

definable insulation level when the capacitor casing is acting as Basic or Operational insulation.

ratings. Therefore, these components do not need to be provided with an additional, definable insulation level, such as Recognized Component – Tubing, when adequate clearances are not

RATIONALE:$ |% R; g' S! Y: Z! k, l: V
Under IEC 60384-14, X1, X2, X3, Y2, and Y3 capacitors are subjected to a minimum Electric
# I7 ~7 @5 \9 u0 k+ R8 h- g+ FStrength Test of 2000 V rms between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors are subjected to a 4000
8 ?( a r# j$ \V test. (Y4 are only subjected to a 900 V test).
8 f- o3 X/ x0 x/ v8 ~% p! ZFor Recognized Component FOWX2 capacitors, UL 1414 now covers X1, Y1 and Y2 capacitors,6 e5 d+ B2 U$ C" |: u& S3 I& W
and the minimum Electric Strength Test is 2000 V between live parts and case. Y1 capacitors! x7 m8 W, N& L. |9 D. O
are subjected to a 4000 V test.& E3 }$ @* w9 V5 e. c. M5 p7 |& W
For Recognized Component FOKY2 capacitors, UL 1283 requires the insulation between live6 W1 [9 V( ^+ J. V3 \: R+ {6 V6 M
parts and casing is required to pass a 2Vr+1500V (Vrating =< 250V) electric strength test.# c% s; [ t% \ V* F3 `- W
Additionally, the case is required to be V-2 or less flammable (or equivalent), and meet UL 746C
$ j- K" q# p) M/ J ~" U(or generic) insulation requirements.
