Finland has transposed the EU Battery Directive 2006/66 of 6 September 2006 through the Decree on Batteries and Accumulators (the "Decree"). The Decree was adopted on 19 June 2008, and will enter into force on 26 September 2008. The Finnish Ministry of Environment and the Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre are responsible for administering the Decree and the Safety Technical Authority TUKES is responsible for enforcing its requirements. In accordance with an amendment to the Battery Directive, the Decree provides that batteries and accumulators that do not meet the applicable requirements must not be placed on the market after 26 September 2008.
