Eco-design requirements for non-directional household lamps (EC No. 244/2009) and fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, high intensity discharge lamps and ballasts and luminaries able to operate such lamp (EC No. 245/2009) have entered into effect as of 13 April 2009. Non-directional Household Lamps 2 P; ^$ X% i* U* W On 24 March 2009, the European Commission published Commission Regulation (EC) No. 244/2009 for implementing EuP Directive 2005/32/EC with regard to ecodesign requirements for non-directional household lamps, which took effect from 13 April. The Regulation, composed of 8 articles and 4 annexes, sets forth ecodesign requirements in terms of rated lamp lifetime, lumen maintenance, number of switching cycles before failure, premature failure rate, starting time, color rendering (Ra), luminous efficacy, and product-information requirements on such lamps. / |; J0 [2 l3 O8 L5 }8 W3 M Lamp-efficacy requirements will be implemented in a six-stage approach to provide a sufficient timeframe to phase out less-efficient lamps. Starting from the first stage, effective from 1 September 2009, the lamp-efficacy requirements are as follows:
! w, Y" z7 ?" r/ e Fluorescent Lamps without Integrated Ballast, High Intensity Discharge Lamps and Ballasts and Luminaries able to operate such Lamp On 24 March the EU also released Commission Regulation (EC) No. 245/2009 for implementing ecodesign requirements for fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast, for high-intensity discharge lamps, and for ballasts and luminaires able to operate such lamps, which also became effective on 13 April. This Regulation will replace Directive 2000/55/EC in regard to energy-efficiency requirements for ballasts for fluorescent lighting one year after entry into force. Regulation (EC) No. 245/2009, composed of 9 articles and 7 annexes, offers the following definitions: , t# m' V" q7 u( p2 R • Fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast means single- and double-capped fluorescent lamps without integrated ballast; • High-intensity discharge lamps means electric-discharge lamps in which the light-producing arc is stabilized by wall temperature and the arc has a bulb wall loading in excess of 3 watts per square centimeter. ' R$ k- O) n# Q& ?7 ~ * l. e' ^0 ~% L The ecodesign requirements will be enforced in a 3-stage approach, respectively from 1, 3, and 8 years after entry into force. Effective from 13 April 2010 (stage 1), lamps of all types must meet 100h initial value of rated minimum efficacy values (lm/W), depending on lamp type and nominal wattage, and colour render index (Ra) ≦80.
