29.4 A test need not be performed to determine whether a part complies with the requirement in 29.3 if2 [) z6 ` W9 j+ n
study and analysis indicate that the strength of the part is adequate for the purpose as a result of its + E" a1 a( N0 [, x0 J, a! e$ b$ vmaterial and dimensions – for example, copper or steel pipe of standard size and provided with standard ' k7 h+ Z- i+ @( P# K7 nfittings might be considered to have adequate strength. # `9 d& B+ V2 j9 O29.5 A pressure vessel bearing the ASME code inspection symbol (²H², ²M², ²S², or ²U²) is considered, B, ~+ s6 K% j2 [& w/ g
to comply with the requirement in 29.3 if the vessel is marked with a value of working pressure not less ' z" Q, {5 w, Lthan that to which it is subject during normal or abnormal operation.+ K2 B( i2 x' w
29.6 If a test is necessary to determine whether a part complies with the requirement in 29.3, two samples9 G' J+ e3 ^) P( J7 E: o! } ]# l
of the part are to be subjected to a hydrostatic-pressure test. Each sample is to be filled with water as to2 |2 E) h6 | Q# ^
exclude air and is to be connected to a hydraulic pump. The pressure is to be raised gradually to the 0 ]' k9 u, t0 ]$ F: vspecified test value and is to be held at that value for 1 minute. The results are not acceptable if either , w: F7 I& o+ x2 Q/ gsample bursts or leaks, except as indicated in 29.7. 9 b$ }$ M$ s; z* z29.7 Leakage at a gasket during the hydrostatic-pressure test is not unacceptable unless it occurs at a, y7 T4 T2 v* u4 g' x
pressure 40 percent or less of the required test value. # ]. y7 T& L/ j! x4 x29.8 A means for relieving pressure shall be provided for all parts in which pressure might be generated & z, _ s o- C) pin the event of fire. ( f4 c! I H. N% Z6 p29.9 Pressure-relief devices (see 29.15), fusible plugs, soldered joints, nonmetallic tubing, or other+ F( A3 L- Z7 b5 z2 I

29.11 A vessel having an inside diameter of more than 3 inches (76.2 mm) and subject to air or steam ' l- @+ z8 O$ S3 ppressure generated or stored within the appliance shall be protected by a pressure-relief device./ U/ J: m/ o3 L) Y1 ?% }( O3 {
29.12 The start-to-discharge pressure setting of the pressure-relief device shall not be higher than the % d" C3 ~* [8 d5 p: N- o5 nworking pressure marked on the vessel. The discharge rate of the device shall acceptably relieve the# R% r( |0 b% O7 x
pressure.* f% J( |& D0 f- q+ E- i
29.13 A pressure-relief device shall comply with all four of the following: _: x+ I- | H o/ ra) Shall be connected as close as possible to the pressure vessel or parts of the system that it; w3 K5 a( S+ _ n

b) Shall be installed so that it is readily accessible for inspection and repair and cannot be; }/ K" B1 u- W- ~2 y/ g

c) Shall have its discharge opening located and directed so that the risk of scalding is reduced ) C+ [. K' U( }& a7 Q" x; ato a minimum; and) R8 p, Y' r' g* f9 y
d) Shall have its discharge opening located and directed so that operation of the device does % j, L0 F+ l/ r1 D( L" U8 D3 tnot deposit moisture on bare live parts or on insulation or components affected detrimentally by ' F2 B+ z3 D* F2 Xmoisture. : [6 j* d0 c$ h; z0 ]29.14 A pressure-relief device having an adjustable setting shall be judged on the basis of its maximum 0 d% I# M% I3 s6 D% X4 usetting unless the adjusting means is sealed at a lower setting.0 i$ W8 T2 Z! t
29.15 A pressure-relief device is considered to be a pressure-actuated valve or rupture member intended$ m6 ^# ^- v. D! S+ B3 ~" }! M, \

29.16 Where a pressure relief device is required, the control responsible for limiting the pressure in the8 S0 B$ m9 b/ F* q& m8 _
